“Renovation Projects can be much like a dynamic jigsaw puzzle. Multiple aspects needing to fit into appropriate slots at appropriate times within predetermined budgets from a multitude of trade professionals” says Greg. “The whole process can be quite a journey sometimes taking on a life of it’s own. A trusted advisor providing sound information, reliable communication and acting as a sounding board is imperative.”
Greg joined the Refresh Renovations team as a Renovation Consultant in 2014 with more than 35 years Building Industry experience and knowledge to call upon.
His formative years involved architectural & structural draughting covering large commercial projects throughout Canterbury and later expanded into contract draughting in London. What followed was a yearning to explore different cultures and seek out new opportunities. These came in the form of administering and supervising crews of bird catchers in Botswana (Government sanctioned) of large birds bound for zoos and game parks worldwide, trekking to Everest Base Camp and hitchhiking throughout the United States. Greg feels that “connecting with all sorts of people from different cultures has been a wonderful, life changing experience for him.” It ultimately brought him back to NZ and the Building Industry but with a new perspective. Other strings were added to his bow including quantity surveying, national sales management, team building and research & development.
“The Industry is in my blood” he says. “With my background, it’s great to be able to assist and help steer homeowners through the maze of decisions needed to obtain a great final project outcome. Undertaking a renovation project can be a very big deal, whether it is a kitchen, reconfiguration, extension or a second storey addition. It’s important to get the balance right, to provide the proper care and attention to the project and to enjoy the journey along the way.”
A recent project had us adding a small extension and reconfiguring a 100 year old villa. This provided a better flow with an expanded living area, a new relocated kitchen, an ensuite and a discrete laundry cupboard, all to the delight of the owners. Some other recent projects have involved extensions for growing teenagers, a reconfigured home to allow better bathroom and bedroom access for elderly parents and a re-roof that no other company would touch because it looked like a “leaky” home. We proved otherwise.
Greg is married with 3 grown up children who are all now forging their own careers.
Awards: 2015 & 2017 Renovation Consultant Of The Year.
