A Much-Needed Interior Design and Renovation Required

Brad’s Palmerston North home was dated, lacked personality, and had a closed off lounge that made entertaining difficult. He wanted to inject some style into his interior, so he contacted his local Manawatu Refresh Renovation Consultant Richard Marshall to arrange a free consultation.

Brad shared his renovation goals with Richard; he wanted to modernise the kitchen and bathroom, refresh the interior, add a back door, and create open plan living. He was also considering a porch area but needed advice about costs.

Richard talked through some initial ideas with Brad and then walked him through Refresh's renovation process. Refresh deliver straightforward and stress-free renovations for homeowners, tailored to their needs and budget. Our experienced renovation consultants know there is no one-size- fits-all solution, so they listen to your goals and work with you to deliver exactly what you need, taking care of every detail along the way – exactly what Brad wanted.

Creating a Modern Concept and Design

Brad and Richard worked together on concept plans that would transform his home. Adding a back door access via a refreshed laundry was high on the priority list. Renovating the kitchen with a focus on accessibility was important, as was creating open plan living. The boring bathroom would also receive an injection of personality with modern tile and a stunning shower featuring double heads and a sliding glass door. After considering everything he wanted to achieve inside, Brad decided to leave the idea of the outdoor porch for another time and focus purely on the interior transformation.

To ensure Brad and Nicky had a portaloo throughout the renovation, Richard allowed for the renovation to be completed in two stages. The main bathroom would be transformed first, followed by the kitchen and laundry. Once Brad was happy with the detailed working plans, timeline, and budget, Richard's team could move forward with the mega makeover.

Mega Makeover Begins

At this stage, Refresh Manawatu's Project Manager Zoe Blease was involved to complete the transformation. Co-ordinating a large interior renovation is no small feat – it’s no wonder the process often scares homeowners! But for Brad, the experience couldn’t have been easier. While he focused on family and work life, Zoe was sourcing suppliers, co-ordinating numerous tradespeople, securing council consent, and managing every other element of the renovation all while being Brad’s single point of contact to keep communication constant and clear.

Once the main bathroom was completed, the rest of the renovation swung into action. In the laundry area, a glass backdoor was installed which allowed easy outdoor access and loads of natural light. The tile matched that of the adjacent toilet which made the spaces feel connected. The wall separating the lounge and kitchen was removed, creating a large, open plan space that is so much better for entertaining.

Contemporary Cool

Brad’s home is now clean, cool, and contemporary, with custom touches that he loves. The laundry feels fun and fresh with subway tiles and black accents, and a modern washer and dryer installed under a handy work bench. A lime green door to the adjoining toilet provides a playful pop of colour.

The kitchen, dining, and living areas are now open plan. The kitchen is stunning, spacious, and sleek, with loads of storage space and a large island. Custom space steps emerge from beneath the sink and hob with the touch of a toe , making access and activity easier and safer for those needing the extra height.

The main bathroom received a stunning makeover, with a beautifully tiled shower boasting two shower heads and a modern glass door on a top roller. The shower floor has a stone inlay look, making you feel as if you’re in a retreat!

Final Thoughts

Zoe took a bland and basic interior and transformed it into a modern home with custom touches that reflected Brad’s personality and needs. The home now has an open layout, and spaces have been elevated using tile and modern fittings. Brad is thrilled with the outcome and loved the punctual and professional service he received throughout: ”Zoe was amazing to deal with.”

For Zoe, the renovation has been a huge success. “The home feels so fresh and modern, a real transformation. I especially love the bathroom tile and shower floor – a fantastic feature.”
