bathroom renovation in Australia with speckled tile shower

Lisa and her family had outgrown their home but didn’t want to move to another location. They embarked on a renovation to create more space by transforming part of their old dining room into a stylish master bedroom, ensuite, and walk-in wardrobe.

A Two-Stage Renovation

Rather than incurring the stress and expense of moving, Lisa decided to maximise the potential of her home by transforming underutilised space. This meant that she could remain in the same location while enjoying the comfort and convenience of more room.
Lisa had previously worked with Refresh to add a living room extension to her home; now it was time for a luxurious master suite and wardrobe.
From her past positive experience, Lisa knew what to expect. She met with her local Renovation Consultant, Leigh McDonald, to discuss her ideas, which included creating a walk-in wardrobe and transforming one of her bathrooms into an ensuite.

Approving the Plans

Leigh arranged for concept drawings to be done to show Lisa how her finished project could look, and she had the opportunity to review these and make any adjustments.
Before work began on stage one, Lisa had a budget of $42,000 for the second stage. However, 12 months had passed since her initial enquiry, and the prices of labour and materials had increased significantly. Leigh discussed the options available and Lisa confirmed she was happy to commit to a new budget of $51,500 to achieve the desired outcome.
Once the concept drawings were finalised, more detailed working drawings were created by an architect. Happy with these, Lisa then received a detailed cost breakdown and an estimate of how long the work would take.
This collaborative process gave Lisa peace of mind that the renovation would be delivered on time and within the agreed budget. She opted to source the fixtures, fittings, and tiles herself while Leigh took care of everything else, including scheduling the contractors.

Getting to Work

The renovation required the old bathroom to be demolished and a new one to be installed in its place. Multiple tradespeople were involved, including plumber, plasterer, carpenter, tiler, caulker, waterproofer, and electrician. Leigh carefully scheduled when each trusted contractor was required on-site and was there to oversee the project and ensure everything ran smoothly.
Lisa was kept up-to-date on how her renovation was progressing and felt so comfortable about leaving her property in the hands of Leigh and the team that she went on holiday to Bali during the construction stage.
All work ran to plan, and Lisa was able to enjoy her new master bedroom, walk-in wardrobe, and ensuite on her return.

The Finished Result

In the ensuite, Lisa’s choice of black fittings and tapware contrast beautifully with white walls and large beige tiles. The double vanity unit and matching mirrored cabinets offer plenty of storage, and the spacious walk-in shower creates a luxurious spa-like feel.
The large window bathes the room in natural light, and a blind provides privacy when needed. A deep bathtub provides the perfect place to soak away the stresses of the day, and gentle lighting is provided by a pendant light that hangs overhead. Plants add a touch of greenery and help to create a natural, airy feel.
In the bedroom, the large walk-in wardrobe allows clothes to be stored without being cramped or creased and makes daily clothing selection a pleasure. Clothes and accessories are arranged on shelves and hangers, and a large shoe rack sits in one corner.
The living room and bedroom have also been fully redecorated, and this large two-stage renovation project is now complete, with its stylish and functional spaces greatly enhancing the family’s lifestyle.

Final Thoughts

Thanks to Leigh and the team at Refresh, the project ran to schedule and was delivered within budget. Lisa loves her new master bedroom and ensuite, especially the shower. She’s also looking forward to a shopping trip to fill her new walk-in wardrobe!
