Time for a Change

After renovating part of her home, Katrina, the homeowner of this St Heliers bungalow, sought to modernise the master ensuite and wardrobe that had been left untouched.
For this project, she called in the experts at Refresh Renovations. After meeting with Renovation Specialists John and Maree de Latour, Katrina was confident that her vision for the upgrade could be achieved.
The existing bathroom and wardrobe had narrow floor areas, a dated design, and lacked storage space – they weren’t quite as inviting as Katrina wanted them. Instead, she wished for a more spacious, modern ensuite and a wardrobe with greater usability.

Running the Numbers

Although Katrina was very design-led in her approach, she wanted to keep a reasonable budget for her ensuite renovation. With the initial estimate coming slightly higher than her budget, John and Maree worked with her to offer alternatives that would allow for a stylish ensuite bathroom and wardrobe space.
The final budget was set at $95,000, with the actual cost coming in at $97,000 as Katrina added a pendant lighting fixture to the design. She was more than happy to increase the budget for this addition, and it became a beautiful feature of her bespoke bathroom design.

Upgrading Pipework to Meet Building Code

Once the renovation work had begun and bathroom linings were removed, John and Maree’s team found existing plumbing and drainage systems that were not up to code.
Springing into action, John and Maree responded quickly, managing an essential upgrade to the pipework with Katrina’s go-ahead. The renovation team completed this upgrade swiftly, ensuring that the bathroom was safe and compliant with industry standards.
During the renovation, John and Maree also led their team through not one but two COVID-19 lockdowns. They were in constant communication with everyone involved throughout this duration to ensure the project moved ahead as quickly as possible despite external delays.

A Dramatic Makeover

Katrina is thrilled with her new master ensuite and walk-in wardrobe. John and Maree took great care of the entire process from start to finish, ensuring the results were just as she’d envisioned.
The ensuite bathroom’s long and narrow space now feels sleek and luxurious. Re-designed with a darker colour scheme, the ensuite features black marble tiles that create drama and interest. The slick floating vanity blends beautifully into the room with its black finish and boasts a white benchtop with contemporary twin basins to match.
In the far end, the ensuite features a gorgeous dual head shower with an upgraded hot water system. The silver finishings look sleek in combination with the tiling and continue throughout the ensuite, neatly tying the room together.
One of Katrina’s main goals for this renovation was to create a more open and spacious environment. The use of gloss finishing on the wall tiles and LED lighting around the long bathroom mirror have certainly achieved this. Paired with the surrounding white walls and existing skylight, this bathroom is undoubtedly a bright and fresh space.
As for the walk-in wardrobe, the space has been completely upgraded with a floor-to-ceiling wardrobe unit. The use of dark wood creates a decadent contrast between the master suite’s neutral carpet and white walls. With customised shelving and overhead LED lighting, the new wardrobe provides a luxurious experience. Complete with a new heat pump, the master suite has received a wonderful makeover, creating a truly inviting haven.

The Perfect Result

Katrina loves her new master ensuite and walk-in wardrobe; the rooms are sleek and luxurious, giving her the more spacious environment and improved functionality that she desired.
With John and Maree managing the entire renovation, the process was smooth and stress-free from design through to build. They ensured the project was kept within Katrina’s budget, achieved each of her goals, and delivered exceptional results. This meticulous care can be seen throughout the finer details of the ensuite and wardrobe, which have, together, transformed the master suite into a stunning feature of the house.
