Hoping to have a new kitchen installed by Christmas, the Towers family met with Queenstown renovation specialist David Dolphin to discuss their ideas.

While they wanted their new kitchen to be practical, the Towers also wanted it to have personality and plenty of colour. For David, helping them to find this balance was key.
“We decided to renovate our kitchen but weren't sure of the process or who the best reputable tradies were...so rather than taking a risk and hoping for the best we contacted David Dolphin and immediately knew we'd made a great choice” tell the family in a 5-star Google review. “We had the bones of an idea - he put the meat on it...and more.”

Kitchen design

David and his team collaborated with Trends Kitchens to finalise the design, layout, fitout and finish of the new kitchen. In late November, the demolition and construction work began.

Kitchen renovation

Laminate timber flooring and blinds were installed, bringing character and a quality feel to the room. To open up the space, a wall and doorway were removed, and the original walk-in pantry was incorporated into the new layout.
“This enabled a large double-door fridge to be hidden at the end of the kitchen so that a 900mm freestanding stove could become the new focal point”, explains David.

In terms of colour selections, the family opted for a vibrant orange, contrasting with gunmetal grey.
“This kitchen renovation makes a strong statement,'' confirms David. “It’s a brave but ultimately successful use of striking colour. The kitchen island creates a huge area for food preparation, with improved access to the kitchen from both ends of the island. The separate dining island continues the theme, making great use of the available floor space as well as providing useful extra storage. Improved overhead lighting also makes the new kitchen more enjoyable to use.”

Final thoughts

Following just over three weeks of work, the kitchen is now unrecognisable. It’s larger, brighter, luxurious and, most importantly, reflects the taste and lifestyle of the Towers family. After being presented with their new kitchen - right in time for Christmas - the family’s feedback on the final result, and the experience as a whole, is highly positive.
“The whole process was seamless. As a project manager (David) was excellent. Communication was never a problem as he was a text or call away and would respond promptly. His knowledge of the building process was invaluable to our renovation. We would recommend David and Refresh Renovations without question. Thank you David, we'll be in touch for the next job.”
