Upgrade Wanted

James and Julie knew it was time to make changes in their Hastings bathroom. The tiles in the bathroom’s wet area had lifted, the vanity was dated, and better extraction was also needed. In short, things needed a revamp!

The couple knew they wanted some high-end features, such as underfloor heating and tiling, so they reached out to local Refresh Consultants Sophia Roydhouse and Mike Ross to discuss ideas and see what was possible.

Sophia and Mike arranged a free consultation with James and Julie to go through their bathroom wish list, discuss their budget, and explain the Refresh process. Refresh are the renovation experts who can manage your project from the early concept and design phase right through to the final delivery and sign off. From sourcing materials and hiring contractors to council paperwork and health and safety, every detail is taken care of so that your renovation is simple and stress-free.

James and Julie both had busy work schedules, so this end-to-end service with experienced project managers and designers sounded perfect. They quickly moved ahead to the exciting design phase with Sophia and Mike leading the way.

Concept and Design

James and Julie had some firm ideas about what they wanted for their new bathroom, including a frameless glass shower, tiles, and underfloor heating. Sophia was able to advise the couple what these design-led features were likely to cost, which they were happy to invest in for a beautiful result.

Sophia and Mike worked with their designer to achieve the best layout for the room that would maximise space and functionality while prioritising aesthetics. The old brown and beige bathroom would make way for a fresh new look that mixed classic neutrals and materials. Behind the scenes, underfloor heating and ventilation would create a comfortable space year-round. James and Julie were involved in selecting all the materials and, once they were happy with the final design, budget, and schedule, the transformation could begin.

Quality Construction

With a clear plan in place, Sophia and Mike tapped into their existing network of tradespeople that they trusted to deliver outstanding workmanship. They were quickly able to secure a builder, plumber, electrician, plasterer, painter, and tiler, saving James and Julie countless hours of sourcing quotes and trying to find someone available to do the work!

When the bath cradle was removed during the demolition, it was discovered that the waste pipe was in front of the wall, not behind as would be expected. The team handled the curve ball well though, managing to relocate the pipe into the back of the wardrobe that backed onto the bathroom, so James and Julie could still have the free-standing bath they wanted.

Apart from the waste pipe change, the rest of the renovation was smooth sailing, with Sophia and Mike, the dynamic duo, expertly managing every element of the workflow.

Fresh and Fabulous New Look

From boring and bland to fresh and fabulous – James and Julie’s bathroom renovation was a stunning success. Tile is a major component of the space, from the large format slate coloured flooring tiles to the leaf mosaic shower tiles that created an amazing feature. The shower is generously sized and features frameless glass, creating a modern and streamlined look.

James and Julie prioritised a beautiful, New Zealand made timber vanity and matching tower unit, creating another high-end feature in the space. The rich timber tones add vibrancy to the room, and contrast with the crisp white of the vanity top and free-standing bath.

Recessed down lighting, a large chic mirror, and chrome tapware complete the modern space.

Final thoughts

In just six short weeks, James and Julie’s bathroom was completely transformed into a bright, modern space that champions beautiful lines, quality finishes, and a crisp, clean look. New ventilation and underfloor heating combine with well-chosen fixtures and finishes to create a stunning bathroom that will be enjoyed for years to come. Sophia is thrilled with the outcome.

“There are so many beautiful elements in this stylish suite that have come together to create a fantastic result. The leaf mosaic is subtle but a real feature piece, and I love the warmth that the timber elements bring to the space”. Sophia Roydhouse, Renovation Consultant
