A harmonious kitchen facelift that creates calm and complements the stunning lake views.
These new homeowners couldn’t help but see red. The existing kitchen was such a vibrant colour that it was detracting away from the commanding view of the lake that the property held.
Overall, the functionality of the kitchen worked well so a complete redesign was not necessary in this instance. Instead, a lighter touch was needed. That consisted of updating the cabinetry fronts, benchtop, splashback and updating handles and tapware.
In terms of the aesthetic the homeowners wanted a softer more harmonious colour palette that was warm and welcoming but didn’t compete with their stunning views. The clients contacted Kathleen Magon of Solasta Ltd,a Refresh Renovations® franchise to help with their renovation.
Major Challenges
The project did not require any major works so there were few challenges that needed to be navigated. However, there was a delay with the stone benchtop installation due to a high demand on services. Plus, the natural stone tile that the homeowners had chosen required several coats of sealer to be applied prior to being installed. This serves as a protection against potential cooking stains.
Design Highlights
Removing the old breakfast bar created a greater connection to the adjoining dining space. Changing the handles to a minimalist style helps streamline the look of the kitchen. The unsung hero of the space is the natural stone tile splashback. Although this was additional work initially it has provided textural movement that draws the eye into the space.
Other minor changes included updating the cooktop to a new induction model and adding a pull-out spray mixer with the new double bowl sink. Enhancing the functionality of the space.
Project Execution
The renovation was completed in just under 3.5 weeks, most of this time was due to templating and production time for the stone benchtop. This project was completed in conjunction with other bathroom works and acomplete interior re-paint with some feature walls of variants of Resene Lemongrass.
The final budget for this element of the project was $49,119. This was an increase on the original budget as some changes were made along the way such as the choice of tile and the addition of the handles which required some additional labour for them to be rebated.
With careful planning and execution, Kathleen Magon and her team of Refresh Renovations® delivered a contemporary update to this kitchen space that the homeowners love and now enjoy using, having put their own stamp on their new home.
Client Feedback
The clients love their new look which is much more in keeping with their style. The neutral colours of brown, beige and taupe combined with small pops of feature walls dotted about the home creates a warm, inviting space that sets off the picturesque lake views beyond.
