Currumbin Waters Bathroom Renovation

This is what our client had to say about this project, "The project was finished in five weeks and I've got no complaints. It's really good to have a decent shower and that would have to be the best part of the new bathroom. We came in on budget at just under A$16k even though I was expecting to pay considerably more,"

Built in the mid 1980s, this three-bedroom, Gold Coast house in Currumbin Waters is typical of its era, retaining characteristics which, over the years, have become dated. Having spent almost 15 years living there, Lyle was ready to invest some money into giving his home the attention it deserved.
The old style bathroom had a sluggish shower, that had literally run out of steam when it came to delivering enough water to wash away the dust and grime brought home each day from the homeowners job at the local road mix processing plant. It was time to repair and replace the fixtures and fittings and create a functional and comfortable bathroom for the current owner. This would also make it more appealing to possible potential buyers, should Lyle decide to sell the house any time in the near future.

The bathroom renovation

With the contract in place, Refresh Renovations’ Home Renovation Consultant, Brooke Patterson used her wealth of knowledge and experience to set the tried and trusted Refresh processes in motion. Ensuring the brief was detailed and clear and the budget agreed on, the main bathroom and separate toilet were quickly stripped of the old drop in bath, melamine vanity, the old style wired glass shower screen and toilet. The wall tiles and small square floor tiles were removed, to make way for larger style tiles, in keeping with todays’ modern bathroom trends.

“With budget in mind, all fittings were kept in the same place,” said Brooke.
“The installation of a smaller 1500mm space-saving Cassa Lusso freestanding acrylic bath meant the bathroom could also comfortably accommodate a separate shower,’” she added
The shower area was stripped back and waterproofed. The bathroom was fitted with white wall tiles that ran half way up the wall and finished with a fresh coat of white paint to the ceiling. A new cornice and replacement LED lights provided the finishing touch to the room, with a compact 3-in-1 bathroom heater installed into the freshly painted ceiling. This provided heat, light and more importantly, ventilation. Contrasting cleanly with the strong dark floor tiles, a two drawer, white, floor standing single sink vanity was installed, with a large mirror above it to create a sense of space and light in the compact room.
The separate toilet received a new lease of life, with a replacement toilet and modern washbasin. To ensure continuity, the same floor tiles were used to match the adjoining bathroom. A fresh coat of white paint provided a clean and bright finish to the small space.

Living at home during a bathroom renovation

With one bathroom in this modest home, it made sense to retain a separate toilet and bathroom, which begs the question, how did Lyle the homeowner, cope for five weeks while the work was underway? “I did consider the hose in the back yard but thought better of that. Being a member at the local gym, I was able to shower there and we set up a camp toilet in the backyard,” said Lyle

Final thoughts
