The Main Objective

The owners of this 1970s home in Fielding were happy with their kitchen’s layout but had a handful of improvements they wanted to make, which included installing new benchtops and appliances. It was to be a cosmetic overhaul rather than a gut and rebuild.
For professional assistance, they reached out to local Renovation Consultant Wayne Gordon, with whom they discussed their goals and ideas. They already had a concept established; they simply needed experts to undertake the construction stage and someone to coordinate the entire process. To get the project started, Wayne connected the homeowners with his Project Manager Brian Taylor, who handled the project from start to finish.

Project Costing

After thoroughly assessing the homeowners’ plan for their kitchen, Brian provided a costing estimate of $37,000. This cost included installing new benchtops, a splashback, brand new appliances, and updating the cabinetry.
The homeowners were happy with the budget and went ahead with the renovation. However, the final cost came in slightly above $38,800 as they later decided to make a few extra changes to the kitchen. These variations were to change the colour of the kitchen’s switches, electrical outlets, and additional fixtures, which weren’t included in the original quotation.

Construction

Even small-scale renovations like this project require multiple tradespeople. Brian seamlessly coordinated all the necessary experts, including the Electrician, Plumber, Tiler, and Kitchen Joiner. With his diligent project management, the homeowners could sit back and enjoy watching their kitchen take shape before her eyes.
The majority of the general materials used for the kitchen were sourced from Mitre10, while other products were sourced from Noel Leeming, Harvey Norman, Chesters, and Quantum Tiles.
During construction, there was a slight delay with receiving some appliances due to international shipping problems. But as soon as these landed in New Zealand, they were promptly installed. Brian regularly checked in with the homeowners throughout the process to ensure they were well informed of the renovation’s progress.
“Nothing was too much trouble, and they kept in contact throughout the entire renovation process” - Wendy, one of the homeowners.

A Brighter, More Stylish Kitchen

This kitchen has a much brighter room and features a primarily white colour scheme, bar the striking black splashback. Built with classic stack bond tiling, the splashback creates a distinct contrast between the white benchtops and cabinets, all of which combined make for a stunning contemporary kitchen design.
The previous kitchen island was home to a sink, which has been removed to free up valuable bench space. Now featuring a white stone benchtop with waterfall edges, the new kitchen island has been established as a sleek centrepiece of the room. Meanwhile, a brand new oven, stovetop, and rangehood provide fantastic functional upgrades.

Superb Results

This kitchen renovation has delivered superb results, all wrapped up in a stylish yet timeless design. Having Brian manage the complete construction phase made the process a great experience for the homeowners, who were thankful for the hard work put into their kitchen. They can now enjoy the familiarity of the old kitchen’s layout with a fresh design that looks, feels, and functions like a brand new space.
"I just want to say a big thank you for the work. We are extremely delighted with our newly renovated kitchen. They all did a fantastic job” - Wendy, one of the homeowners.
