What are some current interior design trends in Melbourne?

When it comes to interior design, it’s all about creating a space that is equally functional as it is beautiful. However, just like with fashion trends, what interior design choices are “in” is constantly evolving.
In Melbourne, some of the most popular trends in 2020 include using bright and unique colours that match your personality. Whether you want to use whites and yellows to design a zen environment, or blues and greens to emulate a tropical paradise, you can use both paint or wallpaper to create the look you want.
The 1970s aesthetic trend has also been growing since last year, where homeowners are leaning towards corduroy on cushions and upholstery, polished metal lighting, extravagant cut glass, and a selection of earthy colours to match.
In Melbourne kitchens, homeowners are choosing to maximise space by hanging their pots, turning cabinets to open shelving, and knocking down walls to create an open space. This turns your kitchen into more of a display than just a room you cook in. By creating a free flowing plan between your kitchen and living areas, you can entertain guests while preparing meals!
There has also been a higher demand for bespoke craftsmanship and handmade goods as Melbourne homeowners are looking to use more unique products created in smaller batches, especially ones that are produced in sustainable and eco-friendly ways.
Refresh Melbourne interior designers and decorators know how certain colours complement each other and how to use accessories to create the illusion of extra space, or to craft a comfortable relaxed environment for daily living, based on your unique needs.

How much does it cost to design an interior in Melbourne?

Interior design projects often depend on the scope of your project and the amount of detail you require. Usually, interior designers charge by the hour, and average rates range from $80 to $800* based on the requirements of your job.

*Please note that these are rough estimates only. For a high-level indication of what your interior design will cost, the Refresh Process is designed to provide you with all the information you need to make an informed decision.

What is the interior design process like when working with a Refresh Interior Designer?

Refresh always starts by first understanding exactly what you want to achieve via an introspective consultation to figure out what is important to you and why. From there, our interior designers will create detailed renderings of your project if necessary. Why not see what your home will look like with the new colour scheme before committing to anything? We’ll then create working drawings based on the concept plans and help you acquire any required consent. Finally, we’ll manage your entire project and ensure your interior design project is completed to the highest standards.

Your Style,
Your Budget,
Our Expertise

Refresh®’s process supports a bespoke design and build: a renovation tailored to your lifestyle requirements and taste. Your local Design & planning renovation consultant will manage every aspect for you - working to keep everything on track.

Step 1

Briefing / Initial Consultation

The first thing your Design & planning renovation consultant will want to know is what it is that you want to achieve through your home renovation. In this initial consultation, you can throw all of your ideas on the table - your consultant will then tailor them to your property and budget.

Step 2

Concept and Feasibility

With a clear understanding of your renovation goals, your Design & planning consultant can arrange for an architectural concept to be drawn up. This allows your Design & planning consultant to assess whether or not your ideas are feasible, and allows you to point out any changes you would like in the design - before any work begins.

Step 3

Working Drawings and Costing

Next, working drawings will be developed. These will take into account the engineering, structural, design and aesthetic decisions you have made. If you would like to make any further changes, now is the time to do so. From there, your Design & planning consultant will present you with a fixed-quote as well as a contract.

Step 4

Build / Construction Stage

Finally, you get to witness your project transition from the page to your property! Every aspect of the build will be managed for you, allowing you to carry on with your everyday life. Your Design & planning consultant will do everything in their power to keep your project on schedule so that it can be completed within a set timeframe and budget.

Step 5

Your Finished Renovation

The final stage is for your local Design & planning consultant to ensure that all Council documentation is completed and you have the necessary Code of Compliance documentation. Congratulations – your renovation is complete!
