How will I benefit from the Refresh process?

Refresh works with you to achieve your ideal result. As custom design and build specialists, our Melbourne builders follow a process unique to the building industry which makes Refresh a standout against other building companies. We understand that renovations are often a daunting process and that many homeowners have budgets that they need to stick to. With this in mind, we approach every renovation from a solutions perspective - thoroughly planning out the renovation before any work begins - so you know what your budget, building schedule and result looks like from the start. What renovation services does Refresh provide?

Our custom design process and industry connections allow us to provide you with a huge range of building services. These include:

  • Extensions and additions
  • Kitchen renovations
  • Bathroom renovations
  • Basement, garage and loft conversions
  • Eco renovations
  • Home restorations
  • Interior/exterior makeovers
  • Deck builds
  • End-to-end project management

...and anything else you can think of!

How much does a home renovation cost?

Refresh designs every project according to each customer's individual budget and specifications, which means the costs involved in each home renovation vary. Refresh has carried out kitchen renovations starting from $20,000, bathroom renovations between $30,000 - $100,000 and home makeovers/extensions exceeding $200,000. The best way to set an accurate budget is to seek a fixed-quote from your renovation specialist.
Please note: these costs are rough estimates only and are subject to change. For an estimate accurate to your project, please contact your local renovation specialist.

What consents should I be aware of, when renovating in Melbourne?

Depending on the suburb you live in, there are quite a few consent processes and regulations to be aware of. Renovations which alter the structure of your home will generally require planning permission - although a building permit may be sufficient in some areas - particularly if you live further from the city centre. If you do live outside the city centre, ensure you are aware of any additional guidelines which may apply to your property, as many of the city’s outer suburbs fall under a heritage overlay.
If you live within an apartment or townhouse, ensure you have secured the proper body corporate approval, where necessary, before beginning any renovation work. In these situations, we also recommend being courteous toward your neighbours and talking to them about your project well in advance.
When renovating older homes, particularly traditional weatherboard houses, be aware that your renovation will need to be carried out in accordance with local subfloor requirements. As the foundation of your building, it is important to ensure subflooring is built/renovated with efficient ventilation and termite-resistance in mind.
Refresh’s Melbourne builders will assist you with any building regulations which are relevant to your project, and will take care of the paperwork and approval process throughout your renovation.

What materials are commonly used?

When selecting building materials for your home, it’s important to consider how materials could be affected by Melbourne’s climate, as well as how your choice of materials might impact the environment. Common building materials in Melbourne include timber weatherboards and framing, metal roofing, aluminium double glazed windows and doors, as well as pine, composite or timber flooring. Your renovation specialist can advise you on choosing materials that suit your style, budget and environment.

What styles and trends are popular in Melbourne homes?

If you’ve been browsing the Melbourne property market lately, you’ll likely know that the art deco style is particularly “in” at the moment. This style consists of pops of colour, geometric patterns and vintage pieces. With many of Melbourne’s homeowners residing in apartments or townhouses with limited space, innovative designs and layouts are highly requested. Glass walls and skylights are a great way to create the illusion of more space, while creating separate levels within living areas helps to define spaces without closing them off from each other.

Is now a good time to renovate?

On top of there being some spectacular doer-uppers on the market at present, Melbourne’s declining interest rates provide a great opportunity for homeowners to improve their existing property or makeover a new investment.

Your Style,
Your Budget,
Our Expertise

Refresh®’s process supports a bespoke design and build: a renovation tailored to your lifestyle requirements and taste. Your local Full Home Renovation renovation consultant will manage every aspect for you - working to keep everything on track.

Step 1

Briefing / Initial Consultation

The first thing your Full Home Renovation renovation consultant will want to know is what it is that you want to achieve through your home renovation. In this initial consultation, you can throw all of your ideas on the table - your consultant will then tailor them to your property and budget.

Step 2

Concept and Feasibility

With a clear understanding of your renovation goals, your Full Home Renovation consultant can arrange for an architectural concept to be drawn up. This allows your Full Home Renovation consultant to assess whether or not your ideas are feasible, and allows you to point out any changes you would like in the design - before any work begins.

Step 3

Working Drawings and Costing

Next, working drawings will be developed. These will take into account the engineering, structural, design and aesthetic decisions you have made. If you would like to make any further changes, now is the time to do so. From there, your Full Home Renovation consultant will present you with a fixed-quote as well as a contract.

Step 4

Build / Construction Stage

Finally, you get to witness your project transition from the page to your property! Every aspect of the build will be managed for you, allowing you to carry on with your everyday life. Your Full Home Renovation consultant will do everything in their power to keep your project on schedule so that it can be completed within a set timeframe and budget.

Step 5

Your Finished Renovation

The final stage is for your local Full Home Renovation consultant to ensure that all Council documentation is completed and you have the necessary Code of Compliance documentation. Congratulations – your renovation is complete!
