The Importance of Early Decision Makingback to article list
Although The Tile Depot is known as a retailer of quality interior and exterior tiles, they also sell a wide range of bathware, drainage, tapware and underfloor heating to complete your bathroom renovation project. In fact, it’s a wise idea to consider the range of baths, toilets, cabinetry, basins, tapware and even mirrors well before purchasing your tiles and even before your renovation project has commenced, as these critical decisions can have a profound influence on the overall design of a space.
One of our staff members found out how important advanced planning is recently when she commenced the build of a new home. Just 1 day prior to the concrete pad being poured, the plumber requested the exact model and dimensions of the bath and toilets she had chosen, whether she was using channel drains or point drains in her showers, as well as a strong indication of the size and likely position of vanities and basins. All items she thought she had months up her sleeve to ponder the design and style of. Luckily she had a few favourites from The Tile Depot bathware and drainage range and was able to quickly jump on the website and look up the products and dimensions on the spot. There was no more dithering about style and layout once that concrete was poured.
Further decisions she thought she had plenty of time to ponder also included those that affected the electrician’s work and even the joinery installation – well in advance of actually needing these items. For example consideration of mirrors, underfloor heating and heated towel rails all had to be made well before walls were lined so that the electrician could adequately wire for them. She knew she wanted Broadway mirrors with built-in LED lights from the Tile Depot, but had to make an early decision about size and position on walls, which also related to the style of vanity and position of basins and tapware - in order for the wiring to be correctly located. The electrician also requested the heated towel rails on site to sort the pre-wiring for these well before the house was even insulated. Luckily for her Heirloom heated towel warmers from The Tile Depot were easily sourced.
Underfloor heating was an important decision to consider early on too, as you need to know what areas you plan to install it, how many thermostats you will need and position of these on the wall, and also whether or not to use insulation board. All critical factors that affect both the electricians work and the final finished height of a floor, which in her case affected the installation height of sliding exterior doors as she was seeking a flush finish between interior and exterior spaces. Warm Floor heating kits available at the Tile Depot are what she has selected.
There are so many decisions to be made in a new build or renovation project. Just selecting the tiles alone can be a challenging task with so many varied and fantastic options available. The most successful spaces are those that have considered each element as a collective whole, the style of tiles, tapware and cabinetry, the form of bathware, shower systems, niches and mirrors, heating and lighting. All these elements ideally need to be selected and considered how best they go together to get the overall form and function you are aiming for. And firm decisions on many of these items will need to be made well before you may be ready to purchase and install them. So, before you commence that new build or renovation project, head into the Tile Depot to discuss your vision and let the staff there show the range of products that they have available to help your project run as smooth and successfully as possible. Your tradies will be very impressed at your level of pre-planning and decision making.
