The owners of this Melbourne home contacted Refresh Renovations specialist Leigh McDonald regarding the renovation of their bathroom and ensuite. Their main priorities were to replace all of the bathroom and ensuite’s fixtures, fittings, tiles and vanities while retaining the existing plumbing. Refresh’s design and build process allowed them to design, plan and execute their ideas with ease.

Bathroom design

Following an initial consultation, Leigh put together a plan for the homeowners, using a budget template. This allowed his clients to determine the costs that would be involved with the renovation as well as finalise the fixtures and fittings that they wanted. Leigh’s clients carried out a tile selection at Beaumont Tiles and drew inspiration from the 3D design that Leigh had provided. The fixtures and fittings were then selected at a nearby Burdens Bathroom showroom, allowing the homeowners to know exactly how it was all going to look. From there, Leigh scheduled his team of demolition and waste removal specialists, electricians, plasterers, tilers, glaziers, plumbers, painters and waterproofers.

Bathroom renovation

Initially, there were a couple of minor hiccups during the project’s construction stage.
“The walls were lined with cement sheeting and not plasterboard”, explains Leigh. “This meant we underestimated the time and cost to replace the wall linings. We also had tiles delivered that were incorrect. They were one digit out which took it from one colour to another.”
Luckily, Leigh’s Construction Manager picked up on these issues early on in the project and they were easily resolved. The correct tiles were obtained and installed in both bathrooms, following the removal of the original bathtub which was replaced with a freestanding tub. Modern tapware was also installed, from Harmony’s Nardini mixer range, along with timber benchtops.

The new bathroom

Now complete, the homeowners are enjoying their updated bathrooms.
“The client was a pleasure to deal with”, says Leigh. “They were happy with the finished product and all of the trades used.”
